Forget my puny little evening bag. Check out this dress knitted from plastic bags:

By Cathy Kasdan, who is currently finishing up a Master’s in textiles at Kent State University and her thesis is based on consumer culture.

The dress is all hand knit from grocery bags that were the result of actual trips to the grocery store. As soon as I told people I could use their old bags for a project they brought them in by the bag full, I received thousands! The plastic grocery bag came about in the 1950′s along with futuristic optimisim about America, so I made a “typical” 1950′s ensemble complete with pillbox hat and purse, not pictured. I am going to have my pieces in an art show on recycled art at the School of Art Gallery in downtown Kent along with a group of other people beginning April 19th.
I can’t imagine it’d be very comfortable. I don’t suppose recycled plastic bags “breathe” very well. Of course I could be wrong (It’s happened once or twice, lol).

Knitted plastic bags are amazingly comfortable considering their polyethylene. Stretchy and all hthose holes keep the wearer cool.
Hi, Your knitted plastic bags sound just what I want.
Could you tell a complete novice at anything crafty, how you do it.
I need to make a dress for our competition. i started trying with plastic bags but failed miserably.

June: I wish I could take credit, but the dress is Cathy Kasdan‘s creation.
eh, who cares if you can’t wear it comfortably or if it’s more of a concept piece. this is friggen’ AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i started using plastic bags to crochet, and it is a pain in the ass to cut all the bags.
oh, and btw- if anybody tries this, garbage/trash bags are AWEFUL. don’t use them- just stick to the plastic bags from grocery stores. the ones from grocery stores don’t have as much friction.
What do you do for baby food when your baby starts to eat regular food? Do you make your own? Has anyone ever tried one of the manual, portable baby food grinders, and if so, do they work?
