Two creatures we rarely give a thought to are bees and earthworms. The first are essential to our food supply and the continuation of many plant species, but are declining (by as much as 50% already) in the U.S.. The latter are – to my huge surprise, and I’ll bet to yours too – a non-native invasive species in the U.S.!!???
The Washington Post has a good article on Beeing nice to bees and potentially even beekeeping in the city.
If you have a woodland garden, as I do, you may be surprised to learn that earthworms may not be your friends. This sure surprised the heck out of me. I’m always ever so glad when I dig up an earthworm in my garden and was thrilled to find them inhabiting my compost pile.
