In my neighborhood park last week, I noticed what looked like hundreds of tiny ant hills around the edge in grassy areas. Then, I noticed bees flying around them and even crawling in them. I didn’t give it much more thought, but decided to have a closer look while I was at the park again today. I got some good photos, a video, and was able to identifty the bees as mining bees, family Andrenidae. They are a type of solitary bees which are important pollinators.
Looks like we are inadvertently helping the bees! I just nobody calls the city to exterminate them.
